The story here of a childhood shaped by the First World War, dislocated, then ultimately enriched by the Second.

Glin Bennet's father, from rural Northern Ireland, had gone through the worst of the First World War as a chaplain, and afterwards switched to medicine.
His Scottish mother's early life in a different way had been shattered by that War. There was a long way back for them but they made a successful, secure life in London, until another World War erupted.

Then for Glin it was a ship to Canada, public school in England, medical studies in Ireland, hospitals, army service.

At least that is the surface of the story.
