Gradually surgery lost its meaning for him and so was abandoned. Now was the chance to fulfil a long-held desire to write. Having known C G Jung probably helped, as Jung believed in the life with meaning. So it was off to southern Spain to write the book and only when it was written to return to the practicalities of life in England.

Then marriage changed everything - moving to Bristol, a completely unexpected career, children, researches into the psychological hazards of disasters (now well accepted) and of ocean sailing.

A new life developed quite unimaginable when this part of the story opened.
