Bees in My Bonnet by Doreen Ramsay( The Bard of Bedminster)
(Published by Broadcast Books )
First published by the Malago Society in 2002, this little collection of witty sometimes acerbic poems celebrate the city of Bristol as she is known and loved by generations of Bristolians, especially those south of the great divide of the river. They are delightfully illustrated by Anton Bantok. This edition is a reprint due to popular demand.
Doreen Ramsay lived in Bedminster all her life, despite being bombed out of her house during the Bristol Blitz. She worked as a secretary and started writing poems and plays in her 50s. Her hugely successful Searchlights over Bemmy was staged to full houses at the Tobacco factory in 2004. She died in July 2006.
