The story revolves around Kaz, and unfolds as a voyage of discovery - and self-discovery - with many memorable and colourful characters, missions to exotic and often dangerous worlds, and inter-planetary intrigues. That's all business as usual in the diplomatic team, but everything changes when Kaz arrives on a planet called Heart and becomes personally involved.
 
Haadri has been described as epic space opera, and the author is noted for the warmth with which she writes, particularly in her treatment of alien species, many of which appear more humane than most humans. Her handling of alien science is also lucid and firmly based in fact.
 
Complete and satisfying in itself, this is actually the first of a series of books that continue exploring the lives of its memorable characters. The conclusion is already written and is a closely guarded secret.
