The 1898 Stephens car at the Clevedon Motor Cavalcade in 2006Diesel Publishing, established in late 2006 is shortly to publish its third book. The proprietor, William Fairney  set up Diesel Publishing to produce his work  “The Knife and Fork Man”, when he was unable to find a publisher willing to produce such a specialist book, a biography of Charles Redrup the engine designer.
William had the high-quality book printed in China and it has been a great success, having sold out the bulk of the print run of 1,000 copies.
Spurred on by this success he fulfilled a long-term ambition to publish an anthology of essays and poems by his grandfather. Being mainly for the family only 100 copies of “Just My Doggerel” were printed, this time by a ‘print on demand’ company, Cpod in Trowbridge.
Whilst researching Charles Redrup’s history William found that he had married the niece of Richard Stephens, the man credited with building one of the first all-British motor cars in 1898. He also built the first motorised hackney carriage to ply for trade in the city of Bath. So much material came to light about Stephens that William has now embarked on his biography. The book should be published later this year
