Shades of Gold by Greg McGregor

(Published by McGregor Artistry )

Anne, the beautiful heroine of ‘Shades of Grey’, accompanies her artist lover, Jack, to New York, in pursuit of his American Dream. The golden horizon Jack promised her is tarnished by his Machiavellian art deals. Anne despises his destructive family and hates the materialism of New York. In Manhattan, Jack introduces Anne to Walter Chrysler who is enlarging his art collection for his Provincetown Museum.
Jack has sold him several post Impressionist paintings that Chrysler displays when he loans his collection to the National Gallery in Ottawa. An investigative journalist causes a stir when he asks questions about their unknown provenance. This alerts the Internal Revenue, as these paintings have not been declared by Jack’s Gallery as imports from France.
Marylyn Monroe dies that summer whilst Anne is holidaying in Boston. Subdued press references link her to the President, John F. Kennedy. The American dream is turning sour especially when Anne is terrified by an almost fatal encounter with the Boston Strangler.
Jack is hounded by the Internal Revenue, his gallery is besieged by the press. They trace him to his hotel where he makes an escape to Anne’s Sutton Place apartment to find refuge and anonymity. If he is arrested he will expect a seven-year prison sentence. Anne sails back to England and Jack plans to follow her, to continue working as a full- time artist in the hope of making a new, successful, and happy life together.
