“Diesel Publishing was established in 2006 to publish books of an engineering and scientific nature, as well as a poetic work. The current list consists of two titles, “The Knife and Fork Man”, by William Fairney, and "Just my Doggerel", by Joseph Johnson Fairney.
“The Knife and Fork Man” is a composite of biography and technology development, and charts the life of Charles Benjamin Redrup, a designer of engines for cars, boats, motorcycles, aeroplanes and buses. In the 1930s he worked for the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Company, and developed an unusual axial engine based on the “Wobble-plate” principal.
Redrup also worked for Vickers aircraft and the A V Roe Company, designing engines for First World War aircraft, and light aircraft in the inter-war years.
However he always returned to motorcycle engines of which he produced a wide variety between 1901 and 1948.
"Just my Doggerel" is an antholoy of poems by William Fairney's grandfather, Joseph Johnson Fairney. It covers the inter-war years and wartime England and is a collection of sometimes whimsical, often satirical poems and essays.
The proprietor of Diesel Publishing is Professor William Fairney, a Chartered Engineer and aviation enthusiast and this is his first venture into publishing.
